Coach Ring grew up in Pasadena California. He played soccer and ran Track & Field for La Salle High School in Pasadena. He then went on to California State University, Chico. At Chico, Chris was a member of the track team competing in the Pole Vault, Javelin, and Triple Jump. He earned a Baccalaureate degree in History & American Studies from Chico State. Ring then earned a Master's in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine.

Coach Ring returned to his alma mater to coach; Cross Country, Boys Soccer, and Track & Field for La Salle High School. He is currently the Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City Utah.
